7TH ANNUAL INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES (IFFLA) ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES

HOLLYWOOD, CA, September 26, 2008 – The 7th Annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) announced its Call for Entries today. The festival will be held April 21-26, 2009 at ArcLight Hollywood, a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Los Angeles.

The early deadline, with reduced fees, for all film submissions is November 17, 2008. The final deadline is January 9, 2009.

IFFLA 2009 seeks narrative, documentary, music videos, experimental, children’s and animated films of any length and format. 

IFFLA 2008 had over 7,000 attendees and screened about 40 films from India and around the world.  In addition to the high-quality presentation of their work, filmmakers in attendance gained access, through the festival, to an eclectic mix of professionals from the Los Angeles film industry. Jury and Audience Choice Prizes are awarded for Best Feature, Documentary and Short film.

The 2008 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles kicked off with the Opening Night Gala presentation of Richie Mehta’s AMAL on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinemas in Hollywood. The festival closed with the IFFLA Closing Night Gala presentation of MUMBAI CUTTING…A CITY UNFOLDS on Sunday, April 27 at ArcLight Hollywood. The joint project included eleven of the best directors in India, among them Sudhir Mishra, Anurag Kashyap, Rituparno Ghosh, Revathy, Kundan Shah, Jahnu Barua, Rahul Dholakia, Shashank Ghosh, Manish Jha, Ruchi Narain and Ayush Raina.

Other highlights included the presentation of the 2008 IFFLA Industry Leadership Awards to Andy Bird, Chairman of Walt Disney International, and Timmy Kandhari, Executive Director in the financial advisory service practice and leader of the Entertainment and Media Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers India at a ceremony that took place on Friday at Hollywood’s House of Blues, as well as nightly musical performances in the IFFLA Rhythm Village (located in the ArcLight Hollywood Courtyard) presented by Rukus Avenue featuring entertainment by Gurpreet Chana, Sammy Chand, Gingger, Raagapella, Mark Killian and Sandeep.

Films previously premiered at the festival include AMAL (Richie Mehta), FROZEN (Shivajee Chandrabhushan), STARS ON EARTH (Aamir Khan), WATER (Deepa Mehta), VANAJA (Rajnesh Domalpalli), BLACK FRIDAY (Anurag Kashyap), A PECK ON THE CHEEK (Mani Rathnam), HARI OM (Bharatbala), CHOKER BALI (Rituparno Ghosh), A TALE OF A NAUGHTY GIRL (Buddhadeb Dasgupta), and MR. AND MRS. IYER (Aparna Sen) among others.
