Legendary South Indian actor Mammootty plays Dr. Nathan, a renowned economist with a drinking problem. An intellectual, Nathan sees human relations as pragmatic, based on personal and financial need. But these ideas are put to the test when, on a whim, he decides to help his neighbor Deepti by paying her son’s hospital bills. The two of them begin an affair but Deepti’s mounting sense of guilt and Nathan’s emotional coldness drive Deepti towards mental instability. Touched by her plight, Nathan soon finds himself irresistibly drawn back into this woman’s life.

Based on a Bengali novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay, director Shyamaprasad’s film takes a number of surprising turns. Mammootty and Meera Jasmine give nuanced performances as their characters continually defy easy categorization all the way to the final frame.
