Empty Canvas (Shunyo É Bukey) US PREMIERE India/2004/120 min/35mm
Director: Kaushik Ganguly Through the passage of time, the concept of feminine beauty has been interpreted in the singular realm of the physical. Empty Canvas attempts to reverse the trend that solely emphasizes external beauty. Four artists gather at the temples of Khajurahhho to gaze at the sculptures adorning the façade. While contemplating the romanticized renderings of the female form, one man finds the living embodiment of his ideal. The two engage in a clandestine romance and despite objections from family and friends, eventually marry. The artist quickly discovers that unlike clay or canvas a real woman cannot be molded to fit his standards. Bengali (English subtitles) Q&A with director Kaushik Ganguly Print Source: |
